Privacy Policy
Protecting your data with transparency and care.
Last updated: May 2026
Honk is built for truck drivers. Your miles, your data, your profile. Private by default, only public if you want it to be. We never sell your data. Period.
Honk is for truck drivers, period
We don't work for fleets, brokers, insurers, or anyone else looking over your shoulder. You — the driver — are our customer. Every decision in this app is built around that.
Your profile is private by default
When you sign up, no one can find you. Not other drivers, not the public, not anyone. You drive, you log miles, you see your stats. That's it.
Want to use your profile? Flip the switch
If you want to use your Honk profile to put yourself out there — for better job opportunities, partnerships, or anything else — there's a single toggle in your profile called "Public Profile." It's off by default. Turn it on, and the limited information described in Section 9 becomes visible to others on the platform. Turn it off, and you disappear within 24 hours. No appeals, no exceptions, no "legacy data."
We never sell your data
We do not sell your personal information as the term "sell" is defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), the Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act, the Colorado Privacy Act, or any other applicable state privacy law. We do not share your data with data brokers, ad networks, insurance companies, or lenders. We do not share your driving data, location, or profile with any third party for their own use. The only time other people on the platform see anything about you is when *you* choose to share it by turning on Public Profile.
What we collect, and why
Account information Phone number, name, and any optional profile info you provide. Used to identify you and let you sign in. Location data Collected only while you are actively using Honk and recording miles. Used to display your position on the map and calculate miles. Not collected when the app is fully closed or when you are off-duty. ELD provider credentials Stored encrypted at rest. Used solely to retrieve your own ELD data on your behalf. Device and usage analytics Standard product analytics (app version, screen views, errors, performance) used to improve the app. We use industry-standard providers under contracts that prohibit them from using your data for their own purposes. Photos and content you submit Truck photos, profile content, and anything else you choose to add. Stored to display in your profile.
Who we share with — the short list
We don't share your data. *You* share your profile, when and with whom you choose, by turning on Public Profile. The only third parties involved are the infrastructure vendors that make the app technically work — companies that store data, send text messages, or deliver push notifications on our behalf. They are bound by contract not to use your data for any other purpose. We may also disclose information when compelled by a valid legal order from law enforcement. When that happens, we will tell you about the request unless we are legally prohibited from doing so. We do not share with insurance companies, lenders, fleets, brokers, advertisers, or data brokers. In the future, Honk may add optional integrations with vendors and partners (for example, financial services, fuel discounts, or job boards). If we do, those will always be opt-in — *you* choose to connect with them, the same way you choose to make your profile public.
Honk is not a Consumer Reporting Agency
Honk is not a "consumer reporting agency" under the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The information shown in Honk is not a "consumer report" and must not be used by anyone for hiring, promotion, retention, insurance, or credit decisions in any way that would require FCRA compliance.
Location data — the honest version
We collect location only while the app is actively recording your miles. We do not track your off-duty movements. We do not collect location for safety scoring, fatigue monitoring, or driver-behavior analytics. We do not sell location data. We do not share location with insurers, fleets, or anyone else. You can disable location permissions at any time in your device settings. Doing so will limit some app features (mainly mileage tracking and the map).
If you go public, here's exactly what's visible
When you turn on Public Profile, the following limited information becomes visible to others on the platform:
- Your name and Honk profile photo
- Truck and trailer type - Recent miles driven (aggregated, not minute-by-minute)
- General operating area (state-level)
- Years of experience and any credentials you choose to display
- Your preferred contact method (in-app message by default)
The following is *never* visible to anyone, regardless of your Public Profile setting: your home address, your real-time location, your minute-by-minute HOS data, your phone number, your email, or any data not explicitly listed above.
Your rights
You can, at any time, from within the app:
- See everything we have on you
- Correct anything that's wrong
- Export your driving data and stats
- Delete your account and all associated data — no support tickets, no waiting period
If you live in California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, or another state with a comprehensive privacy law, you also have the right to know what data we have, request its deletion, correct it, opt out of "sales" or "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising (we don't do either, but you can confirm it), and not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. You can exercise these rights from within the app or by emailing privacy@honkchallenge.com.
California-specific notices
We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors under 16. We retain personal information for as long as your account is active, plus a 30-day export window after account deletion.
Data security
We use industry-standard security measures, including encryption in transit and at rest for sensitive data such as ELD credentials. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we treat your data as if it were our own.
Data retention
We keep your data while your account is active. When you delete your account, we provide a 30-day window during which you can recover the account or export your data, after which your data is permanently deleted, except for limited records we are legally required to keep.
Children's privacy
Honk is intended for users aged 21 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 21. If you believe a minor has provided us with information, please email privacy@honkchallenge.com and we will delete it.
Biometric information
Honk does not collect, store, or process biometric identifiers or biometric information (such as facial recognition, fingerprints, or voiceprints), as those terms are defined under the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA), the Texas Capture or Use of Biometric Identifier Act, or any other applicable law.
International users
Honk is operated from the United States and is intended for U.S. users. If you access Honk from outside the U.S., you understand and agree that your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country.
Third-party services
Honk integrates with third-party ELD providers and infrastructure vendors. Their handling of your data is governed by their own privacy policies. We choose vendors carefully and require them by contract to protect your data, but we are not responsible for their independent practices.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy at any time. If we make material changes, we will notify you in the app before the changes take effect. Continued use of Honk after the effective date means you accept the updated policy. If you don't agree, you can delete your account at any time.
